Australian Idol winner, Stan Walker released his 3rd album last week and Urban Empire HQ had a chance to interview the 21 year old superstar. In the interview Stan talks about how he got into the music industry, Idol, his new collab with Jessica Mauboy, what to expect from his new album "Let The Music Play", (which you can buy here) and more...

UEHQ: I just wanna say thank you for taking time to do this interview with us, we really appreciate it.

Stan Walker: Sweet as..

UEHQ. So when did your passion for music start, and how did you get into the music industry?

Stan Walker: I've always loved music, because its always been in my blood and my culture, you know we are brought up around music and i guess i've never done anything before Idol, when i did Australian Idol that kinda just launched me as a singer, so yeh.

UEHQ. Fantastic, so on that topic you won Australian idol, congratulations on that. In total how do you feel that's helped you in your music career?

Stan Walker: It was a huge launching path that put me straight out there in the spotlight and that assisted me with the challenges that came up and it's just a privilege.

UEHQ: For your fans your album "Let The Music Play" is dropping today (18/11/11) can you please let us know what to expect from this album?

Stan Walker: Well this album for me is like a declaration of a celebration of where i'm at today as a young man as a young man, as 20 year old (pretty crazy) (laughs). So there's a lot of dance stuff but also of experiments of different cultures and different styles and everything but all based around pop and it kinda all takes you through a kind of journey of different things.

UEHQ. What approach did you take on this album in terms of sound and how is this album different from your last two albums?

Stand Walker: Well I wanted to explore more on dance, on culture about people, music, cause i think everybody is always like, it's either pop album or rock album, but this is about the music, you know, i've got a bit of Gospel in there, a bit of R&B, dance, most of the album is dance and pop but i've got hints of soul heaps of r&b, hints of country even, i'm inspired by different stuff so yeh.

UEHQ. So you recently recorded a song with Jessica Mauboy called Galaxy can you tell us a bit about how that record came about and how was is it recording together?

Well me and Jessica been looking for a song for a while cause we always wanted to do a song, but it's about the right one, we (did) the song we love it and yeh, we were in a good space cause we are like brother and sister and it was time i guess, it was the right time to bring it out.

UEHQ. Are you doing any tours anytime soon, when can fans expect to see you on stage?

Stan Walker: Me and Jess are back touring in January and February.

UEHQ. What are your thoughts on Australian music industry at the moment, because a lot of people say in order for someone to make it they have to do dance music or idol or Australia Got Talent.. How do you feel about that?

Stan Walker: It's definitely a cut throat market... They kinda love you one minute and hate you the next minute. So a reality show definitely helps you quite a lot and it's just hard work, a lot of hard work.

UEHQ: So do you feel that for an Australian urban artist that is the only way to break into the industry?

Stan Walker: Definitely not i know a lot of awesome urban and pop and artists in general that have worked hard from nothing and you choose like the facilities to get noticed, like technology like youtube, facebook, myspace and all that, you know people have become stars, like Justin Bieber and all that you know.

UEHQ: That's right.

Stan Walker: So there's definitely more avenues you can go down to get noticed really.

UEHQ: That's right... On Behalf of Urban Empire HQ thanks for having this interview with us we really appreciate it.

Stan Walker: Thank you so much, have an awesome day too bro.
