Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV Debuts At #1 & Sells Over 1 Million Copies First Week

According to HITS Daily Double, Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV album has debuted at #1 and sold over 1,000,000 copies in the first week of being released. The last hip hop album to do this was Weezy‘s Tha Carter III back in 2008. 


Young Money president Mack Maine celebrated the news on Twitter.


“We did a MILL in the 1st week AGAIN!!! WE including all of u who helped and purchased da Album!! Love y’all!!! #YMCMB…C4 boom,” he wrote, adding, “A old head once said…..’Men lie women lie numbers don’t’ C4 milli in da first week.”


Nicki Minaj joined the celebration, adding, “A million here, A million there…Congrats Weezy! YMCMB.”


Update: According to Billboard, Lil Wayne just missed the milli mark.

Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" has sold 964,000 in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan, easily enabling its No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart. It is his third No. 1 album following "Tha Carter III" and "I Am Not a Human Being."

"Carter IV" earns the biggest sales week for a hip-hop album (or any set by a male artist) since his own "Carter III" bowed with 1.01 million on the June 28, 2008 chart. "Carter IV" also marks 2011's second-biggest frame, behind Lady Gaga's 1.11 million debut with "Born This Way."
