Jay-Z & Kanye West’s ‘Ni**as In Paris’ Tops Billboard Chart

Posted by Canrus On 20:29

‘Otis’ peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts in September but The Throne has bettered that with their Hit-Boy produced single ‘N***as In Paris’ which has topped the charts this week bumping Lil Wayne’s ‘She Will’ from 1 to 2. ‘Ni**as in Paris’ marks Jay-Z’s ninth R&B/Hip-Hop Songs No. 1 and ‘Ye’s fifth. The song also made progress to No.17 on Billboard Hot 100. Cray!

As predicted Kanye West & Jay-Z’s first week sales are “426,661″. I had an argument with people on Twitter who were saying it would do 1 million first week. Anyways pretty good numbers, this is Jay’s 12th #1 album in a row.

The Throne Set Up ‘Watch The Throne’ Shop In SoHo, NYC

Posted by Canrus On 06:44

Talk about adopting a ‘different’ strategy for Watch The Throne‘s release. MTV reports that the duo has set up their own pop-up store to sell copies of the album in Manhattan’s SoHo area in New York City.

The store-front, located at 201 Mulberry Street, is regally wrapped in gold, just like the album’s Riccardo Tisci-designed cover art, the real attraction however is inside. As if slinging albums weren’t enough, Hov and Yeezy are putting the tricked-out Maybach from their “Otis” video on display inside of the retail space.

The black luxury vehicle sits there in all its remixed glory: hood on the truck, truck on hood, doors ripped off. On a large overhead screen, the Spike Jonze-directed “Otis” plays on a loop. There are even rumors that Hov himself will make an appearance sometime tonight and the store will be up until Sunday.

Check out a small image of the store after the jump.

‘Watch The Throne’ Sales Strategy Prone To Multi-Scanning

Posted by Canrus On 05:32

There are whispers going around the industry that the sales strategy adopted by Kanye, Jay-Z together with the label which gives iTunes a 4 day exclusive window of Watch The Throne‘s release and thereafter physical edition at Best Buy from August 12th onwards, is prone to instances of multi-scanning for sales purposes.

HDD reports that due to the high demand, some Indie retailers who are already unhappy with the sales plan, are planning to buy copies of the CD from Best Buy in bulk, in order to further sell them at their own stores. And if the particular store is weighted by Soundscan, it could lead to multiple scanning for only one physical disc passed to the consumer.

A similar situation occurred in 2007 when The Eagles released their Walmart-only album Long Road Out of Eden and industry experts projected significant double sales at some stores who bought the albums from Walmart and re-sold at their own shops
