Diddy Tops Forbes 2012 Hip-Hop List

Posted by Canrus On 09:45

Forbes has named Diddy the wealthiest hip-hop artist of 2012. For the second year in a row Mr. Combs topped the list above the likes of Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and other usual suspects.

The Bad Boy Records head netted $550 million last year, putting him one step closer to becoming hip-hop's first billionaire. Among the business collaborations fattening his pockets include his partnership with Ciroc vodka, his Sean Jean clothing line, and the Blue Fame marketing agency. The 42-year-old is also planning to follow in the footsteps of Oprah Winfrey, by launching his own network next year, which likely keep him on the Forbes' list for years to come.

Jay-Z comes in second, while Dr. Dre, Birdman and 50 Cent rounding out the list.

1. Diddy: $550 Million
2. Jay-Z: $460 Million
3. Dr. Dre: $270 Million
4. Birdman: $125 Million
5. 50 Cent: $100 Million

Diddy Speaks on Bad Boy’s Reputation and His Original Rick Ross/Biggie Comparisons

Posted by Canrus On 08:40

Check out Puff’s interview with DJ Whoo Kid. Bad Boy’s founder spoke on the supposed black cloud that people say lingers around his label, the new diddy and his original Biggie/Ross Comparisons.

Diddy on critics giving Bad Boy a bad reputation
“Just regular hate and people on some not understanding how this industry works. This is a hard industry, this is not for kids, this is not for the weak. This is not a PG rated industry. If you are weak you will get eaten alive in this industry. This industry has a life expectancy of like two years.”

“It started a couple of years ago with what happened with this artist, why isn’t this artist still on the label, why isn’t that artist on the label, so people started to give us a bad rap. Honestly, nobody that was on Def Jam still on Def Jam nobody on Rocafella still on Rocafella. We’re the last people standing.”

Diddy on his original comments about Ross being the Biggie of the South
“For the record, that isn’t what I said…I said on the “Angels” verse I think he channeled Biggie that night and a lot of MC’s, they channel Biggie in some of their verses. That doesn’t mean your comparing somebody to them. I may have said something like he was the Biggie of the South because I was there, I knew the effect Biggie was having.”

Unreleased Footage Of Biggie’s Murder Crime Scene (Video)

Posted by Canrus On 11:47

On March 9, 1997, Christopher George Latore Wallace known as Biggie Smalls or Notorious B.I.G. Wallace was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. Here's unreleased footage of Biggie’s Murder Crime Scene, also read below what happened that night of his death according to Wikipedia.

Wallace traveled to California in February 1997 to promote his upcoming album and record a music video for its lead single, “Hypnotize”. On March 5, 1997 he gave a radio interview with The Dog House on KYLD in San Francisco, California. In the interview he stated that he had hired security since he feared for his safety; this was because he was a celebrity figure in general, not because he was a rapper.[33] Life After Death was scheduled for release on March 25, 1997. On January 8, 1997, Biggie Smalls and Sean “Puffy” Combs made a video “What’s Beef” which was directed by Dave Meyers. On March 8, 1997, he presented an award to Toni Braxton at the 11th Annual Soul Train Music Awards in Los Angeles and was booed by some of the audience.[25] After the ceremony, Wallace attended an after party hosted by Vibe magazine and Qwest Records at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.[25] Other guests included Faith Evans, Aaliyah, Sean Combs, and members of the Bloods and Crips gangs.[9]
On March 9, 1997, at around 12:30 a.m., Wallace left with his entourage in two GMC Suburbans to return to his hotel after the Fire Department closed the party early because of overcrowding.[34] Wallace traveled in the front passenger seat alongside his associates, Damion “D-Roc” Butler, Junior M.A.F.I.A. member Lil’ Cease and driver, Gregory “G-Money” Young. Combs traveled in the other vehicle with three bodyguards. The two trucks were trailed by a Chevrolet Blazer carrying Bad Boy’s director of security.[9]
By 12:45 a.m., the streets were crowded with people leaving the event. Wallace’s truck stopped at a red light 50 yards (46 m) from the museum. A black Chevrolet Impala SS pulled up alongside Wallace’s truck. The driver of the Impala, an African American male dressed in a blue suit and bow tie, rolled down his window, drew a 9 mm blue-steel pistol and fired at the GMC Suburban; four bullets hit Wallace in the chest.[9] Wallace’s entourage rushed him to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m.

Video: Notorious B.I.G. Performing on Jon Stewart’s Short-Lived 90’s Talk Show

Posted by Canrus On 17:44

Watch this vintage TV clip from the mid-90’s of the late great Notorious B.I.G. performing “Big Poppa” with a live band, back-up singers, Puff Daddy and Lil’ Cease…on MTV’s The Jon Stewart Show. Can you imagine? 1994-1995: Jon Stewart actually had a hour-long talk show on MTV that competed with the big boys like Dave Letterman and Jay Leno. Obviously it failed. But the same team created The Daily Show later, and just look how great it’s become.

But getting back to BIG….this would have been one of the few and biggest TV looks that Biggie could have gotten at the time. I don’t know that they were as open minded to hip hop on the Tonight Show as they are now? And you can hear the influence of the g-funk trend in the cheesy jazzified live band and singers.

The Feds Catch Up with Jimmy Henchmen

Posted by Canrus On 10:05

The Feds finally caught up with Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond earlier today in the middle of Manhattan, only a few blocks from his Czar Entertainment offices. Rosemond will now face federal drug trafficking charges and whatever else the prosecutors may have up their sleeves.

NBC NY reports:

Rosemond, owner of Czar Entertainment, was taken into custody by Drug Enforcement Administration agents who got a tip that he was at the W Hotel in Union Square, law enforcement sources tell NBC New York. He was arraigned in federal court in Brooklyn, and did not enter a plea.

Sources tell NBC New York that Rosemond, who is known as “Jimmy Henchman” and has managed Brandy, Sean Kingston and The Game, fled and was chased by marshals up Park Avenue. He was carrying a fake I.D. and a passport application in a fake name, sources said.

Authorities believed Rosemond, who lived in Brooklyn until he went on the run in recent months, was planning to leave Thursday for the Bahamas.
